FOR the first time ever, those who want to register for the Clean Up Fiji campaign will be able to do so with a few clicks of their mouse.
This after the 12-year-old campaign launched its first interactive and fun website on Friday.
The site www.cleanupfiji.org was designed and developed by media agency, Infotech Consultants.
It allows users to register Clean Up sites and download useful information.
On the website, individuals and teams who are interested in getting involved in the campaign can either register a fresh site or sign up to join another group on a particular site.
When you hit the homepage, all you need to do is click on "Get Involved" and three options will pop up Register a site, Find a site or Sponsorship info.
If you click on Register a Site, that will take you to the first of five steps to put your group's name on a particular clean up area.
Step One is where you will select which island in Fiji your clean up area will be on at present that's either Kadavu, Koro Island, Lau Group, Mamanuca Islands, Moala, Ovalau, Taveuni, Vanua Levu, Viti Levu or the Yasawa Group.
As an example, let's assume you've clicked Viti Levu.
Step Two will tell you that you have selected Viti Levu as your island. Now have to select your town or city. For Viti Levu, the options that are available are Ba, Lautoka, Nadi, Nausori, Navua, Rakiraki, Sigatoka, Suva or Tavua. Let's assume then that you have clicked Suva.
Step Three will tell you that you have selected Viti Levu as your island and Suva as your town or city. Now you will have to select your suburb, village or area. The options for Suva are Caubati, Lami, Other or Toorak.
Assuming you have selected Toorak as your area to clean up, Step Four will tell you that you have selected Viti Levu as your island and Suva as your town/city with Toorak as your area. Now you click your registration type which means whether you are registering as an individual or as a team.
If you click on Individual, Step Five will bring up a form for you to complete that will require information such as your name, your phone contact, your email address, your address, your age and your clean up site.
If you click Team, Step Five will bring up a form that will require information such as: Name of organisation/company; team name; number of people in the team; the team leader's name; the team leader's phone contact; the team leader's email address; and your team's clean up site.
So that's about five clicks before you type in your basic information on your team and site, and then a final click to send it in to the database.
Organisers are hoping that with a large number of people in Fiji now having access to the internet at school, work, home or through internet cafes, many more people will take the time to register their sites across the country.
And for those who don't have such access, there is nothing to worry about. The Fiji Times will publish those same forms in this paper, which you then have to simply fill in and then send to Clean Up Fiji headquarters.
Clean Up Fiji Day is set for November 22 with registrations now open.
The Fiji Times is a sponsor of the program.
